Typical French Menu

In the majority of restaurants?

|||

A typical French menu will include and entree, a main dish and a dessert. If you are asking for typical French dishes, well that will vary TREMENDOUSLY from restauarant to restaurant.

Phread is right -- menus vary quite a bit from restaurant to restaurant. All restaurants post their menus by the front door, so you can always check the menu out before going in.

In general, for the main couse, you will find lots of fish, seafood and meat dishes, including steak (usually accompanied by fries) and chicken. In my experience you will see a lot more duck, lamb, veal and venison than in typical American restaurants, plus rabbit, quail, blood sausage, snails, pigeon, and some dishes for only the more adventurous eaters.

Many restaurants offer a selection of cheeses after the main course.

Dessert: not to be missed! Also varies, but could include sorbet, ice cream, crème brulée, chocolate mousse, tartes, cream puffs, and lots of other delicious options.

Keep an open mind, order the prix fixe menu, and bring a good French menu translator!

Tip: Entrée means appetizer, not main course, as in the U.S.

While in Paris, my husband had the %26quot;French Rabbit Stew%26quot; and said it was delicious. The best he%26#39;s eaten.
