My fiance %26amp; I have decided to go to Paris and then Amsterdam for our honeymoon in September. We are set on renting an apartment. Although we will only be in Paris for about 5-6 days, we intend to spend it leisurely. The Louvre is top on our list, the rest of Paris we want to enjoy just by walking around, eating in cafes and great restaurants, and just soaking in the feel of Paris.
Which arrondissment would you recommend? We%26#39;re from San Francisco, so used to city life and a lot of walking. We want to be near shops, restaurants, public transportation, but also like to feel like we%26#39;re living in Paris while we%26#39;re there.
Thanks for the help!

Shauna, From everything you have said I can easily narrow your search down to three areas: Marais 4er, Latin Quarter 5er, and St. Germain (some of which is actually still Latin Quarter) 6er.
These areas will offer you charm, personality, small hotels with real character at affordable prices, small cafes and shops and wonderful walking opportunities. This comes complete with good nightlife too! It doesn%26#39;t get any better than that!

Look in the any of the arrondissements from the 1eme-75001--through the 6eme--75006--the closer to the Seine the better....cross checking the actual location/address of the apartment against a good local street map to find an address%26#39; relative proximity to those things about Paris that attract and interest you most and access to them on foot or via public transportation.

If you are coming here to see the Louvre and soak up the local atmosphere, then I%26#39;d recommend staying in a less touristy area than the 1st through 8th arron.
LuckyLuk recently stayed in the Batignolles neighborhood and had a great trip, I enjoy this neighborhood, too. The 15th is also has a vibrant community feel and if you want something more classical, the winding streets and staircases of the Montrmarte area can be quite romantic.
ps In Amsterdam, stay in the Jordaan neighborhood.
