Getting to Latin Quarter from CDG with luggage

Hi,

I%26#39;m arriving in Paris on a 2 day visit in March and will have 2 suitcases with me (each about 15-20lbs in weight). What is the best (and most economical) way for me to get to the Latin Quarter? And how long should I expect it to take?

|||

It depends a little on where you%26#39;re staying in the LQ and where you%26#39;re coming from. There are a few choices. Give us some more info, and someone will definitely be able to help you out.

|||

As soon as I posted this, the title of your post smacked me in the face. So now all we need to know is where, in the LQ, you%26#39;re headed.

|||

You should know that there is an inverse relationship between %26quot;ease%26quot; and %26quot;cost%26quot; regarding airport transportation.

Easiest is taxi from CDG, but it is often the most expensive (about 40€ to Latin Quarter, give/take 10€)

Cheapest is RER/metro (8€) but you have to shlepp thru the airport to buy the ticket, carry your own bags onto the train, get off (St Michel? Luxembourg? Port Royal?) and either connect via metro to hotel or walk a bit. Train stations invariably have steep stairs; sometimes an elevator or escalator, but those are occasionally out of order.

Ease and comfort have dictated my choice in

transportation from CDG to the 5th or 6th

on my last 5 visits to Paris.

I have taken a Taxi Parisien out of gate 18.

The cost of my last trip, somewhere around an

hour, cost E38.50 for 2 people and 4 pieces

of luggage.

I agree about the taxi, be it Paris or London etc.

When you arrive you are tired from the overnight flight, dis-oriented because it is a new city, burdened with bulky luggage and you may not speak the language. It is worth the extra expense. Compared to you pay in airfare, hotel, and what you will be spending on meals, attraction etc, its just a few more bucks for great convenience.

Am staying at the Hotel College de France in the Latin Quarter. What about the Bluevan? How easy/comfortable is that? Do they handle luggage (and drop you right outside your hotel)? How much time do they take normally to get to the LQ from CDG?

The Hotel du College de France, one of Sandra Gustafson%26#39;s Cheap Sleeps. Great choice! I also LOVE the location. The hotel, at 7 rue Thenard, is just off the rue Sommerard, and about a 10 minute walk from the St Michel-Notre Dame RER stop from the airport. I would say it%26#39;s about 500 yards or so, with a couple of turns, and it%26#39;s a very slight uphill grade. So, the answer at least to your question of what is most economical would simply be to take the RER from CDG direct to St Michel-Notre Dame and then walk to your hotel. You can get pedestrian walking directions from Mappy.com. I do this transfer/walk, maybe 100 yards less, every time I visit. I%26#39;m 40, I smoke, and I usually have two bags with me, but for me, it%26#39;s a no-brainer. I know there are people who would never walk five football fields to get to their hotel, but I don%26#39;t regard it as a big deal, and would never consider spending an extra $80-100 on the r/t taxi ride.

Other options could be:

Take the RER to Gare du Nord, and then a Taxi direct to your hotel for about 10-12Euros more. (total about 20Euros)

The Roissy Bus to Place Opera and then the Metro with one Correspondence to Metro Maubert Mutualite or Cluny la Sorbonne, and then a short walk to your hotel (total about 10Euros)

Others have given you details on a Taxi.

I am unfamiliar with Shuttle services, as I have not used any, so I won%26#39;t pretend to offer any advice on that.

For the fastest and most economical means of transfer, you can simply take the RER %26#39;B-3%26#39; train from one of the two RER stations at CDG to the SAINT MICHEL-NOTRE DAME station (approx 30 mins), take the escalators from the platform level up to street level. The RER Exit to the station are located at Petit Pont and the end of rus Saint Jacques. Then walk 5-6 blocks to your hotel--RER fare 8 €uro.

The BLUVAN (or any airport shuttle van will cost approx. 22 €uro for a one-way reservation and approx 29 €uro if you reserve for the round-trip. The transfer from CDG to your hotel should take anywhere from 45-70 minutes, depending on traffic and other drop-offs en route.

Hey Billy,

I stayed at the HDCF and on their website, they have EXCELLENT instructions on how to take the RER from CDG right to their hotel. It takes 45-60 minutes %26quot;door to door%26quot;.

The RER is by far the most economical way to get to the location you are going to (it will cost you less than $10) but I don%26#39;t envy you having to carry all that heavy luggage around. Getting it through the turnstiles and up and down a set or two of stairs can be a problem. But I am a 49-year old guy who had little trouble. I must warn you to watch out for pickpockets - they target travellers who have bags and who might be a little tired or disoriented once they have gotten off the plane after a long trip.

By the way, right across the street from the hotel is a TOP restuarant, La Pre Verre.
