Monthly metro tickets

Hi. I%26#39;m going to be in Paris for an extended time, Feb. 5th-March 4th, although I will be in Switzerland for about 12 days of that time. Is it prudent to buy a mensuel metro pass? What do I need to get one? I have bought weekly passes in the past and didn%26#39;t need any special id, application, etc.

Thanks.

Also, from CDG to Place Monge metro stop, is it you opinion to take Roissy buss to Metro or take RER B.

Merci!

Hmmm. These are very good questions. Since your arrival and departure dates fall in two months, and you plan to be away for 12 of them, it MAY not be worth it. If you count the number of days you%26#39;ll actually be there in February, and you think you%26#39;ll ride the metro more than 50 times (25 r/t), it%26#39;s probably worth it. If the days fall so that you you could use a weekly pass (Hebdo), you can buy three of them for a little less than the Mensuel. (45Euros vs. 50Euros), but again, much of that is going to depend on your coming and going for those 12 days actual days (M,T,W, etc.) that you will be there.. You%26#39;ll have to look at all the rules for a Hebdo, which you can find at ratp.fr. It could require a spreadsheet.

As far as the train vs. the Roissy bus goes: There isn%26#39;t really an easy transfer from the RER to Metro Line 7. The transfer at Chatelet is pretty long, and if you have a lot of bags it could really bite. However, depending on where your final destination is and how far it is from the Luxembourg or Port-Royal stops on the RER line, you may be able to take the RER to either of those stops and then head toward Place Mongue. You might try looking up directions for a pedestrian route on mappy.com and see how long the walk would be.

The Opera Metro stop is on line 7, so the transfer from the Roissy bus to the Metro will be pretty easy, and a straight shot to Monge.

Hmmm, didn%26#39;t know the cost was 50Euros for month. Thanks for helping me with some of the math. It gives me something to think about. A spreadsheet is scary. Heck, I still have to figure out cell phone and computer/email access while there!

Doing the math is easy enough. Simply compare the costs of weekly CARTE ORANGE Zone 1-2 passes (valid from First Train, Monday AM until Last Train Sunday PM---15,70 €) for the duration of itinerary in Paris against the cost of a monthly CARTE ORANGE Zone 1-2 pass (valid from First to Last day of the month--51,50 €).

The ROISSYBUS to its terminus near Place de la Opera (at rue Scribe %26amp; rue Auber) then enter the OPERA Metro station and take the #7 Metro ligne (heading in the direction of Mairie d%26#39;Ivry or Villejuif-Louis Aragon) will require one less Correspondence--%26#39;connection%26#39; on route to PLACE MONGE.

If you take the RER %26#39;B-3%26#39; train connection to the SAINT MICHEL-NOTRE DAME RER station, then make a long Correspondence to the the CLUNY-LA SORBONNE station to the #10 Metro ligne to JUSSIEU and then switch trains again to the #7 Metro ligne to PLACE MONGE. It is possible to take the RER %26#39;B%26#39; ligne to SAINT MICHEL-NOTRE DAME and then transfer to the #47 Bus route at the bus stop along rue Saint Jacques (in the direction of Fort du Kremlin-BicĂȘtre) to Place Monge to Place Monge.
