2 day itinerary for first time visitors to paris?

Hi Everyone!!

My husband and I are going to Paris for the first time and both of us have never been. We%26#39;ll have approximately two days as we%26#39;re gettin there on the afternoon of feb 7 and leaving at around 1pm on the 9th. We%26#39;re staying in the latin quarter as it seems like an interesting place. Was just wondering how much of teh sites we can cover in this time. I really want to visit the Louvre and the musee d%26#39;orsay and any other sites that we can manage. Would love to be able to walk everywhere but dont know if that%26#39;s possible int he time we have:) Also was curious about the weather in early feb? Any otehr suggestions? and Thanx alot:)

I am sad everytime I know someone going into Paris for such a short amount of time. Of course, it is better than not going at all, but it takes some careful preparation on your part. I am most disappointed when someone goes in for a day or two and comes back with an impression of Paris that is not that great because I know from my personal experience that Paris is a city that can take time to get under your skin (in a good way).

If you go to the Louvre, that alone could take a big part of a day. Are you a serious museum buff? Honestly, I would recommend only one of the museums at the most for such a short trip. You could take a quick %26quot;get oriented%26quot; tour such as a short seine cruise to see some of the sights. But, what ever you do, do some walking and try to take in a market street and at least one of the %26quot;walking%26quot; neighborhoods such as the Marais, Latin Quarter or Montmartre to see the Paris that everyone falls in love with.

There is no way you will see everything, so good luck in trying to decide your priorities! Reading on this Forum and getting a good guidebook with help tremendously!

Hi

Paris is an amazing city and it would of course have been great if you had more time to spend in the city. When it comes to weather you should check out www.weatherbase.com. The Louvre is huge and it will take you all day or more if you want to see it all. So plan you trip on the net or using a guidebook to get an overview of what you want to see. Other %26quot;mandatory%26quot; sites in Paris are the Eiffel tower, Arc de Triomphe and Notre Dame. Have a great time in Paris. I hope to go back there in April this year :-)

If you want to maximize your time, go to the Louvre on Wednesday night (6pm-9:45pm, Metro = Palais Royal Musee du Louvre). There are only 2 nights a week when Louvre opens at night - Wed and Fri. This way you still have the entire day on Wednesday to do the following:

1. Visit Museum D%26#39;Orsay (Metro = Assemblee Nationale)

2. Visit Eiffel Tower (Metro = Trocadero)

3. Visit Arc Du Triomphe and Champs Elysee area (Metro = George V)

On Tuesday, go to Sacre Couer and Montmarte area (Metro = Anvers). You can use your bus ticket to take the tram up Sacre Couer. It closes around 8:30pm... Grab some banana nutella crepes around Montmarte and walk around. Grab souvenirs too. After this, do a night river cruise called Bateaux Mouche on the Seine River (Metro = Alma Marceau). With this cruise, you%26#39;ll see alot of popular attractions. This one closes around 11:30pm. Get there by 9pm to catch the second last cruise.

On Thursday, visit Notre Dame and Saint Chapelle (Metro = St. Michel).

Using the Metro subway line is key to getting you around the city in no time (approx. 10 mins each time). Get unlimited passes.

The weather in February is still cold. You%26#39;ll need a winter jacket, scarves and gloves.

Hope this helps! Bon voyage!

Somebody once asked David Brower what he would do if he could only spend one day in Yosemite. He said he would sit down and cry.

One full day plus an afternoon and a morning. In my honest opinion you need to spend that time just absorbing the atmosphere of Paris. Walking around the latin quarter and along the Seine, sitting in a cafe, etc. Skip the museums.

But that%26#39;s just me.

On my first time in Paris, we spent about 4 days. It wasn%26#39;t enough so we promised to return. The second time, we stayed a week and we still went home feeling it wasn%26#39;t enough. So many places to visit still. So till next time again.

I suggest you take the half day ciy tour so you can see all the major sights and then you can return to the ones you most like so you can explore further. You can walk the streets of the Latin Quarter to get a feel of the city. One member of our group is content in just staying in a coffee shop after seeing the sights just to watch the city life passing you by. Enjoy your visit.

I am in the same boat. My wife is taking me to Paris for my birthday. We will be there for two days. We can%26#39;t stay longer because we have young children. I%26#39;m trying to figure out the best way to spend the time and have already decided that we will limit our museum time.

Given you itinerary you really need to sit down with a good guide books(s) and PRIORTIZE those sights and attractions that interest you most. Though you say that you arrive in the afternoon, does that mean that your flight arrives at the airport...or when you expect to arrive at your hotel? The same for departing at 1 PM..is that when your flight is scheduled to take-off? If so then you can write-off several hours of each 1/2 day to airport transfers and other travel details....and be left with an itinerary two evenings and a single full day.

To fit the Louvre in, it will be CLOSED on Tuesday but will also have late openning hours (until 9:45 PM) on Wednsdays.
