Louvre, Musee d'Orsay and Musee du Luxembourg

I am visiting Paris for 4 nights in March with the main aim of visiting a number of special exhibitions at the Louvre, Musee d%26#39;Orsay and Musee du Luxembourg. I would welcome any tips on the best ways to buy tickets. In particular 1) Do tickets to special exhibitions at these museums sell out in advance - or is it possible to buy them on the day? 2) Buying advance tickets through the FNAC website - is this workable/a good deal if you are coming from the UK? 3)Do the Louvre tickets sold at Metro stations include access to special exhibitions such as Ingres. 4) Other than buying a Paris Museum pass or advance tickets online through FNAC is there any other way toavoid queues at Musee d%26#39; Orsay? Any tips much appreciated - thanks

For general entrance at Museums you can get a Museum pass.

Special exhibits however are not often part of that deal. You need a special ticket for them. I purchase mine at FNAC.

If you puchase a ticket for a particular exhibit, you can jump the line. Orsay for example has specials doors on the right for ticket holders. Tickets to a special exhibit

include entrance to museum exhibit is at. But not the other way around.

Special exhibits usually require separate, special tickets. In most instances, entry fees for special exhibits will NOT be included on the Carte Musées et Monuments. Unless it is a %26#39;..blockbuster%26#39; special exhibit, special tickets will be un-dated and un-timed.

1) Do tickets to special exhibitions at these museums sell out in advance - or is it possible to buy them on the day? The pre-booked tickets do sell out in advance, but they only sell a limited number of these, leaving room for those willing to spend hours in line.

2) Buying advance tickets through the FNAC website - is this workable/a good deal if you are coming from the UK? Absolutely, especially if you want to be sure to see certain special exhibits. ANd the sooner the better, as they do sell out.

4) Other than buying a Paris Museum pass or advance tickets online through FNAC is there any other way to avoid queues at Musee d%26#39; Orsay? If you have a Minister of Culture ID you don%26#39;t have to wait in lines. Alternatively, if you have particularly cute, well behaved children the guard will usually take pity on you and let you go to the line for pass holders.
