Paris Taxis

There will be four adults visiting Paris in the first part of June.

My husband uses a wheelchair, but does NOT need a lift, etc. He can manage to get into the vehicle like any other passenger.

A few questions regarding taxis:

1. Are the taxi trunks large enough to carry a collapible wheelchair?

2. How hard will it be to find a taxi around the city that will take four adults and the wheelchair in the trunk? Two taxis?

3. Are there phones at the taxi stands in which we can call from the taxi stand and request a larger taxi to pick us up??

4. If we know we will be at a certain taxi stand at a certain time, can we call a few hours ahead for the taxi?

Thanks so much for your help.

Some will be yes.

It will be somewhat difficult. Most taxis are not that large but some are. There are also minivan style taxis that would work well.

No. There are no phones at the taxi stands.

You can call for a taxi and they will come pick you up at your location for an extra fee. Scheduling ahead would be unusual and unlikely unless perhaps your hotel has a relationship with a specific taxi driver.

Thanks.

What would be your suggestion to get back to a hotel in the 9th district at 10:15 p.m. from the Eiffel Tower???

Also, what are our chances of getting a taxi to meet our needs at the Gard de Nord about 10 p.m.? The hotel is only about a mile from the train station.

I have been researching our trip extensively and this is the only area that I%26#39;m not comfortable with how to handle.

Again, thanks

Your welcome, glad to help.

The Eiffel Tower can be a bit tricky because of the number of tourists. Are you eating dinner there? If so the restaurant could call a taxi for you. Otherwise you might end up needing two taxis.

The larger taxis tent to favor the train stations and airports since people tend to bags so I dont think it should be much of a problem, you might just have to wait a bit longer.

This is a good site for Paris taxi info:

Thanks so much MorganB. You%26#39;re helping put my mind at rest.

At the Eiffel Tower, we might just take two taxis. I%26#39;m putting enough money in the budget for taxis as I want to save our energy for having fun. :)

I didn%26#39;t think through that, of course, the larger taxis are probably at the train station and airports. We don%26#39;t have a problem waiting.

However, if we are having problems getting a taxi, would one of the taxi drivers call for us or how could we let the taxi company know we need a pickup if there are no phones at the taxi stations.

Morgan, you have no idea how much I appreciate your information!

Thanks again,

Happy to be of help. I have never tried to have a taxi driver call another taxi so not sure if that works or not. You could go to a payphone and call one of the taxi stands that are listed on the site I sent you, just call one in the same arrondisement. However, if you dont speak french it could be a challenge as many drivers dont speak english.

You could also call a taxi company that can radio a taxi for you. Here are a couple of numbers:

Les Taxis bleus: 01 49 36 10 10

Taxis G7: 01 47 39 47 39

When you call a taxi, the meter starts running from the time they are called, not the time they pick you up.
