Overnight trains Paris to Venice

Thank you CeeJay for your helpful hints, I posted my question in the Chicago Forum what a clown I am ! Anyway am back here now and still eager to get a train to Venice from Paris for the 25th wedding anniversary. It appears that some peoples experience of this overnight train are either hate or love ! Anybody know how much it costs. Have managed to persuade the husband that the Orient Express is the only way home - but needing cheap and cheerful on the way there and a lot of wine to sedate him as he will moan that we are not on a ****** Plane !!! I bet I post this to the Istanbul forum now just watch me. Still learning about forums.

Check the SNCF web site for schedule and fares. I%26#39;m pretty sure that if you want a private Double Cabin, you must book 1st Class and Select from the OPTIONS icon.

You could always try a discount airline for the trip there, and the OE for the ride home.

phread - this follows an earlier thread where Bluebellapasta explained that she loathes flying hence the search for alternatives.

As with everything the sooner you book the cheaper - I%26#39;ve just found a random mid-week journey in March which is 70 euro per person return in 2nd class couchette. However tickets can not be booked online with SNCF more than THREE months before travel so we can%26#39;t say what prices will be then. For the same dates first class was just twice the price but for more flexible conditions the price went up to about 105 euro one way.
