best value transport

I%26#39;l be arriving CDG on thurs 26th jan at 1600 and departing sun29th, check in 1630 and staying in montmartre. Planning on buying a carte visite for 5 days zones 1-5 to pay for the RER from and to the airport and any other metro trips I will be taing. I%26#39;m planning on visiting pere-lachaise, catacombs as well as all the usual suspects. It seems very expensive at €45,70. (I%26#39;m a poor student!!!) Is this the best value for money or is there a less expnsive way to do it?

thanks!

Take the card for zone 1 and 2, and buy the tickets to and from the airport separately at 8 euros each. Should be cheaper this way.

If you do decide to purchase the Paris Visite pass, raphy is right, you%26#39;ll save about 4Euros by buying the pass for zones 1-3 and purchasing your RER tickets separately. But if you%26#39;re going to do that, I would try to save even a little more money by purchasing the three day pass for 18,25Euros for just Fri,Sat,Sun since you%26#39;ll only be there for 4 days, unless you think you%26#39;ll use the Metro more than 6 times on Thursday. HOWEVER!!! The Paris Visite pass is NOT an economical way to use the Paris Metro system unless you%26#39;re going to use it A LOT, and becomes a good value only if you plan to take advantage of the offers available to you at museums and other places while you%26#39;re there. You can check out the promotions (for instance, if you visit the Opera, you save 2Euros on the second ticket) at the RATP website. Most of the savings are for two people when you%26#39;re buying two tickets, however, so if you%26#39;re traveling alone, you may be better off to buy your RER tickets and then just purchase a Carnet of tickets (10 for 10,70Euros) for Metro use.

For your particular itinerary, you will probably be better off (cost %26amp; convenience) with separate one-way RER tickets for the trips from and back to CDG. For your daily transportation needs within Paris then the one-calendar-day (not 24 hrs) MOBILIS passes (5,40 € ea--not good for airport transfers) will probably do quite nicely. The third alternative is to simply purchase CARNETs--booklets os 10 reduced price tickets--(10,70 €uro) for your daily transportation needs. The PARIS VISITÉ pass isn%26#39;t a very good deal.
