Paypal Advise?

I do not have Paypal account and I am going to set one up to rent my apartment.

Any good hints and advise about using Paypal.

Is the 5% built into the hotel charge, does the renter pay it, is it tacked on to your bill? When is the best day to get the best exchange rate

( or one really can not tell from day to day just like all currency exchanges?)?

I use Paypal all the time to receive payments. It is the receiver who pays the percentage, and it is normally around 3-4%.

If you are paying a hotel, check they will except Paypal, they may add the percentage to your bill to cover. Easiest way is to ask them to send you an invoice for the amount. It will allow you to pay with a credit card.

Also if you register with a UK address, the system allows you to %26quot;withdraw%26quot; money into a Uk or US bank. If you register with a French address, you can withdraw into a French or US bank. Over a certain amount Euro 100 I think the transfer is free.

For currency rates Paypal will always give you the conversion before you submit and finalise the payment. Otherwise check out www.xe.com

Hope this helps.

Thank you so much I will only use it to rent an apt.

If you are only using it for the apartment rental, you should be fine.

Also, I recall you said your daughter has an account? Have you considered giving her the money and having her send the payments from her account?

If she is comfortable with that, that may be a good way to do it.

That sounds like a good idea!!

I checked the Paypal web site and also called for information.

I found out that Paypal does not cover for fraud on Apt rentals it just does not let the reciever know one%26#39;s credit card information.

Paypal only covers material purchased items such as from e-Bay and only up to $1000. USD changes for each country and only may make three claims per year.

I had a very interesting conversation with the dispute division also.

Now it is off to calling Travelguard Insurance to find out if they have coverage for fraud.

What you do Discover is that if Paypal will not cover you for fraud, your CC company WILL.

Mascara:

I found out this afternoon that my credit card Visa will dispute charges with Paypal. But they said since Paypal is a %26quot; third party and not under any federal regulations%26quot; if Visa is unsuccessful they will charge you for they money.

There is NO guarranteed protection if one does not go through someone who accepts your credit card directly.

There is no fraud protection at all if one pays through Paypal according to the dispute division of Paypal. Paypal only covers up to $1000.00USD material items purchased such as those on e-bay. One may only dispute three times a year according to the user agreement one signs.

I also called Travelguard Insurance. They also said they do not offer fraud protection either. They will charge me $250 (+ depending on the cost of the apt rental) to cover the rental for trip cancelation and/or trip interruption.

The banker told me DO NOT wire any monies as that has totally no recourse at all. A personal check has more recourses.
