1 Week in PAris

Hello everyone. My partner and I will be going to Paris for 1 week in May 2006. We have never been before and I was wondering if anyone can advise on best way to spend our time. We are interested in daytrips to Versailles, Disneyland, Chartres....anywhere!

Thanks!

Given that you will be in Paris for

a week, you may find that 1-2 days

away from Paris might be the limit.

You mentioned Versailles and Chartres.

You could add Normandy, Giverny,

Mont St Michel as possibilities.

You could consider half days (Chartres

would fit into that category).

There is so much to see and do in Paris.

Churches

Museums

Shopping

Parks

Dining

Just hanging out

Get back to us and we will gladly

comment on your planned itinerary.

If you have one week in Paris you should definitely spend it there.

There is SO much to see and do. 20 arrondissents, that%26#39;s 3 per day and they all have a lot of interest and diversity.

I am not a big fan of Versailles bit I do love their gardens and they should be beautiful in May.

Skip Eurodisney unless you have kids who have been promised to go.

Giverny and Monet%26#39;s house is also a nice little escapade for nature and beauty.

Thankyou so much for your prompt reply! It is so hard to plan your lifetime dream when you don%26#39;t know where to start. I%26#39;m pretty sure I will only get one shot at this dream so I want to get it right =) If you have any tips on transport or good value passes for around the city....any tips really would be wonderful. Thanks so much

Hiya Nell71,

My husband and I are in Paris from 11 May 06 we%26#39;ll look for the green and gold (we%26#39;ll be in black and white of course!)

I have found so much info on this forum. Just type key words i.e. transport, carte orange card, trip reports, daytrips etc.etc. in the search box and out it comes!

Other travellers trip reports, those who have already %26quot;been there, done that%26quot; are invaluable and full of time saving, quene jumping, handy hints - restaurant, accomodation and site seeing recommendations etc.

Do some research using the search button and once you get done to specifics then post questions for our many experts to give their advice on.

Have a great trip we%26#39;ll look out for you!

Hi again,

Sorry forgot to mention courtesy of Travelnutty one of our Paris Experts, type in the search box

%26quot;Give a man a fish%26quot; and you%26#39;ll have all the reference material you need!

Cheers

Patz you%26#39;re a star!........My stepfather is from NZ and a fantastic man too. I will use those searches you have suggested. Maybe we will see you munching on croissants in a little side cafe somewhere =)

Cheers! and enjoy your holiday.....

A week may sound like a lot of time....but for Paris, it%26#39;s barely enough to scratch the surface and become acquainted. As recommended, unless you are a die-hard Disney fan and want to put another %26#39;notch%26#39; in your %26#39;ears%26#39;...skip Disneyland Paris.

Versailles is definitely one of the %26#39;..wonders of the world..%26#39; ane probably should be seen at least once in your life--given the choice between a daytrip out to Versailles or the city of CHARTRES---I%26#39;d go with Chartres almost every time. I once saw an joint interview with Phillip Johnson and Frank Gehry. They were asked what they thought the most beautiful building in the world was. Both, responded to the question simultaneously--without a moment%26#39;s hesitation or missing a beat and replied %26quot;..Chartres Cathedral..%26quot;.

Thankyou KDKSAIL, it seems that Chartres %26amp; Versaille are the two that are spoken of most often, so I think I will take that advice. Do you know if I will need to book the main monuments in advance or could I do that once there?

Nell71,

I don%26#39;t know if Malcolm Miller will be

back at Chartres next May but you

might call ahead. If he is there leading

tours you are in for a real treat.

KDKSAIL can give you all the details on

him.

Also, when you are there make sure to walk

the labyrinth if it isn%26#39;t covered with

chairs.

Although the gift shop is small there

are excellent books on Chartres and on

the labyrinth.

Happy New Year

ps. My mother%26#39;s name was Nell
