La Residence

Does anyone know if this htl is near to Part Dieu station?

|||

Hi there,

La Residence (add : Rue Victor Hugo) is located in central Lyon, what we call %26quot;the Peninsula%26quot; (between Rhone and Saone rivers), at about 1 Km from Perrache station, so if you arrive from Paris Gare de Lyon by TGV, Perrache is OK, trains end there.

But if you arrive from Paris CDG airport, and also when you depart to Nice by TGV, Part-Dieu will be the right station (3 Km from La Residence).

There are lots of trains between Perrache and Part Dieu, free of charge if you connect to another train, but is it wise to check the timetable.

Otherwise, taxi will be the solution to reach Part Dieu station from tour hotel.

Rgds

If you arrive at Part Dieu Station there is a Radisson Hotel that is right there, part of the giant station/shopping mall complex. They call the building %26quot;the pencil%26quot; because it is round and comes to a point on top. You just have to look up to find this weird round skyscraper building, towering over everything. Maybe you can find a cheap rate. There are some very decent restaurants in the vicinity. But if you want the charming Lyon experience you have to go to Vieux Lyon or the Place Bellecour vicinity.

I stayed at La Residence about two years ago. I arrived at the Part Dieu station, went outside and took the tram which brings you right into the Perrache station and from there I walked to my hotel. As mentioned above it is a far more interesting area to visit than what you will find around Part Dieu. The hotel is close to Place Bellecour and I imagine you could get there also by subway but all depends on how much luggage you are carrying.

Is there good shopping %26amp; eating near this hotel?

There is marvelous shopping and eating near the Residence. Cross over the Saone, a few blocks, to the old city, or go to the other side of the Place Bellecour(spelling?) and those streets have amazing places as well. Between the Residence and the Rhone is an art district filled with galleries and antique shops.

Is La Residence in the old part of the city? Am looking for place with charm in old city thanks

La Residence is close to the old city but not actually in it. You only need to walk two blocks and cross the Saone River. Two blocks in the other direction is a pedestrian walkway which begins at Perrache train station and crosses almost all of downtown. You are about two blocks from Place Bellecour in another direction and there begins a very elegant and interesting downtown. I would not call the immediate neighborhood of La Residence charming, it%26#39;s rather plain, but a short walk will take you to a variety of amazing places.
