My understanding is that public schools in the greater Paris area have a one week vacation near Easter. Also, the vacations are staggered over three different weeks. Is this correct? If so, what are the dates of the three weeks of vacation?
How much are typical tourist destinations such as Versaille, Chartres, Loire Valley hotels %26amp; chateaux affected by school vacations at Easter?
If I have a choice would it be better to avoid the above mentioned locations during school vacation and visit at another time?

France is divided into several zones, so that the vacations are not exactly on the same dates.

Each one of the 3 zones has 2 weeks vacation. So the dates of all three zones are from april 9th to May 8th!!
The only dates that should have an impact on shops and museums should be May 1st and May 8th which are %26quot;fête du travail%26quot; and %26quot;1945 anniversary%26quot; where all offices are closed.

As all of Europe is on holiday during this period the typical tourist destinations certainly see more traffic over the Easter Holidays. However, once the holidays are over the retiress arrive, then it is the Americans (they get out of school about month before France) and then you are in full summer.
Nov-March are the quieter months, but even in summer it is still Paris!

Thank you for your responses. Since my trip to Paris is from the end of March to the end of April it looks like I don%26#39;t need to worry too much about school vacation hordes at typical tourist spots. I%26#39;m a weather sissy, a native Californian, so I prefer not to go to Paris in the winter when there are fewer vacationers.
