Metro passes and other questions

Greetings to all-

Am taking my mom(early sixties)to Paris for 4 days in March. I visited Paris for a daytrip last year, Mom has never been there. We arrive at Gare de Nord on Wednesday and leave back on the Eurostar on Sunday. I am confused about which Metro pass would be best for us. We are staying in the 1st arr. a few blocks from the Louvre and I am hoping that we can walk to alot of the sights. However, I%26#39;m not sure about the zones and if the Paris Visite pass is a good deal.

We will probably visit the usual tourist spots Notre Dame, Eiffel Tower, Louvre and hope to take a Paris Walks tour. Am interested in finding a good budget restaurant(not more than 15-20 USD for an entree).

You can still buy the Carte Orange %26quot;hebdomodaire%26quot; (weekly) pass on Wednesday for that week (good thru Sunday). It costs 15-16€ for anywhere in Paris, metro and buses. The Paris Visite is more expensive.

If you really think you will mostly walk, just buy a carnet (set of 10 tickets) for the metro, around 11€ and share them.

FYI: an %26quot;entrée%26quot; is an appetizer; the %26quot;plat%26quot; is the main course. I have no idea how the US morphed %26#39;entrée%26#39; into the main course.

Because you arrive on a Wednesday, will be centrally located and plan on walking alot I%26#39;d recommend just buying individual tickets in a pack of ten, called a carnet.

When you say entree do you mean the French entree (an appetizer) or do you mean an American entree ( a main dish)?

For excellent, affordable restaurant suggestions, read these two articles on the New York Times website. Go to their travel section and search in the Paris guide...

Purchase weekly (hebdo) CARTE ORANGE Zone 1-2 passes. These will provide you with relatively simple, %26#39;hop-on/hop-off%26#39; transportation convenience for ALL public transportation (RER/Metro/Bus/Trams/Funicular) anywhere within the City of Paris (and in a few places beyond).Though there are free transfers between Metro and RER lignes within the same train station, there are NO FREE TRANSFERS between Metro and public buses or between public bus routes. Each time you board a public bus, you need a new ticket. The CO eliminates this inconvenience.

Walking is far and away the best mode of %26#39;..transportation..%26#39; to see, experience and enjoy Paris...but you will do a LOT of walking and climb a montain of stairs in the course of any given day---and should the weather not cooperate (as has been known to happen in Paris in early spring) being able to simply %26#39;hop-on%26#39; to whatever public transportation whenever weather or stamina falter, is a big PLUS.

The CARTE ORANGE pass requires that you provide a %26#39;head-shot%26#39; photo (approx 1 1/4%26quot; x 1 1/4%26quot;--of any type) to affix to the photo-ID portion of the CO pass (makes a GREAT personalized %26#39;souvenir%26#39;) and cost 15,70 €uro each.
